spingfield XD barrels

I own an XD9 and have read that with the XD40 you can change barrels to either .357 sig or 9mm. Apparently the .40 S&W barrel will not fit through the hole in the end of the XD9 slide. So my question is will the .357 sig barrel fit since the bullet diameters are similar? If not, then can the hole be safely machined out to accept the .40 barrel? Thank you for any help on this matter.

  hi i dont think it would work the 357 sig is bassed off the 40 s&w i think that the slide would have to be changed to and even then i'm not sure that would work but i could be wrong

  I can tell you that a 9mm slide won't fit on a 40 S&W bottom and vice versa. I know this because I own 4 XD's 4" 9 & 40 and 5" 9 & 40. So I don't believe your Idea will work.
