Glock reloads

I use a Glock M22 in .40 S&W as my duty sidearm and reload my practice ammo for it. I was talking with one of our other officers about reloading and he uses cast bullets in his for practice rounds. I thought that Glocks weren't supposed to have cast lead bullets run through them because of the type of rifling they have. Any truth to that or can I start casting up some 40s for mine and save even more cash?

    Jailerman,,,, you are correct, Glock recommends only jacketed ammo in their pistols for the reason you stated.

    Advise your friend to switch to jacketed. It is very reasonably priced a places like Wal-Mart. Another benefit of jacketed bullets is the ease of cleaning.

    There are certain types of cast bullets that can be used safely for Glock reloads. At least two companies make what are called dry lube bullets, i.e. plastic coated.

    I've been using the ones from Precision Bullets in Kemp TX for my 10 mm. Haven't had any problems and there hasn't been any leading in my stock factory barrel.

    Unfortunately Precision has been down for awhile as they have been retooling there manufacturing process.

    You can also drop in an aftermarket barrel with conventional rifling for ~$100.

    Shooting a .40 S&W using reloaded lead bullets is a KB waiting to happen. It's doing two of the main things Glock states NOT to do with thier pistol.
