Fair price H&K USP 40 ?
What is a fair price to pay for an H&K USP 40? It's in 99% condition, but no box or extra mag. Dealer is asking $599 but from experience I think he'd take around $550 Only thing is I've never shot a USP; I have owned a Glock in .40 and although it was 100% reliable I think I'd be happier with the single action trigger on the H&K . Any comments appreciated.

599 is not bad for a HK USP, they go for almost 700 here in CA. If you can score for 550 that is awesome. HK mags go for about 45.00 a pop. And don't worry if it is used because I have 10000 rounds through my USP 45, only thing I've changed was the recoil spring to a more powerful one from Wolff. The technician I spoke to from HK says I should be good to go for another 8K to 10K rounds.
The double action pull on the HK is ROUGH. Almost 12lbs, but once it goes into single action the pull is pretty nice. Depending on what trigger group you have, you are able to carry it cocked and locked just like a 1911.
Considering that the USP is a fighting gun and not a target pistol, accuracy is great. Reliable? HELL YES. Eats up ball like no tomorrow, and I've ran multiple brands of defensive ammo through it with no hiccups.
Down side: BIG gun, not good for smaller hands or conceal carry.
Parts are a pain in the butt to find and pricey, just like German Cars. [:D]
If you have to send your gun into HK for service, kiss it good bye for at least 6 week to 8 weeks.
Oh and taking it completely apart. Hmm, the first time I did it, it was a nightmare! Luckily I found some instructions with pictures on how to take it completely apart. Email me if you would like me to send it to you.0 -
Contactfront, Thanks for the info. I can tell you know your stuff. I've never lost a magazine in 30 different autos that I've owned over my shooting life but I'll be extra careful with this one. $45 wow. I like the German stuff so I'll probably take the plunge. 0 -
The USP comes in Four Modes you can purchase. I see them at shows for $499.00 and thats for new ones. Look for a used one, Most have not even been shot 500 times. 0 -
NEW HK USP models start at $600 + wholesale price so you can figure atleast another 10% on top of that for retail.
If you can find a decent used one for around $500 your lucky and $550 would be fair.
The best thing about the new ones is the fact that they are once again available with the High Cap Magazines.

Wholesale price is not $600.00, If you buy one or two year maybe. Most shows mark-up is only $25.00 a gun. The dealers that buy alot get better pricing.0 -
I just did a search on Gun Broker and it looks like the average market price is 550.00 (some as high as 650) and up, + 20 for shipping + FFL fee (normally 20 to 25) to accept the firearm in your area + DROS. So if you can get your hands on one for 550 + Dros and not have to deal with the shipping and dealers fee, you are golden.
Gun prices due vary in different states. Everyone knows that firearm prices in CA are a lot higher due to the "SAFETY TESTS" that a gun must go through to be on CA approved list. Cause our guns are SO MUCH safer than other states. [xx(]
Going price for a USP in the local shops around my area is 679.00 and up.0
