22 Mag Revolver Question

Can you safely fire and have no ill effects on the gun if you fire .22lr in a .22magnum revolver? This revolver does not have two seperate cylinders, it is a dedicated .22 magnum revolver.

  There's about .020 difference in body diameters between the L R and Mag. cartridges. Lot of times the Mag firing pin wont even set off the L R cartridge. When it does it causes the L R case to swell and possibly split. It's not a good idea.

  The case is undersize & will probably split the side or separate the rim. Definitely not a good idea. Try to put a .22 mag in a .22 LR & you will see that only the bullet will go in but the case will not even start to enter.

  No, the .22 mag pistol has a larger chamber, possibly allowing the case to rupture releasing gases back toward the shooter. Can it (a .22LR) be fired in a magnum cylinder? Don't know, never tried, and don't plan on it.

  BAD IDEA!
  
  The case can possibly shatter, which isn't good. Replacement cylinders aren't usually hard to get. Talk to a gunsmith--he may have knowledge of aftermarket replacements and what-not.
