.32 Long S&W
I recently inhereted a handgun from my father-in-law. I am trying to identify the gun further. I know that it is a Smith & Wesson .32 caliber long cartridge. I believe it was probably manufactured in the thirties. It is in good condition but I am having a hard time locating information for this gun. I did find a s/n number on the handle. Can anybody help me identify this gun further.

Pepper, first off, go back and edit your post to drop the last three or four digits of the s/n - e.g.: 378,xxx. It isn't needed and there are those of ill intent who might be able to use the information.
You're telling us the revolver is chambered for the .32 S&W Long ctg . . . but look at the identifying marks (trade marks or model numbers) which you will find on the barrel or inside of the crane (hinged portion where the cylinder swings out). This *may* give someone the data they need to help you.

Your present (edited) post lists no serial number information, and the minimum provide all but the last couple.
Also, pictures would be very helpful. If you do not have the means to post pictures on the forum you can use the email icon at the top of this reply to contact me and I will send you my direct email address. Then you can send the pictures to me as standard email attachments and I will post them for you.
With good pictures, serial number info. and any over descriptive information you can list for us, I think we can get things pinned down for ou pretty quickly.

It is a 32 Hand Ejector 3rd model, made between 1911-42.
These were made on the "I" Frame and are among the finest made of the S&W revolvers.0 -

I am going to make the "assumption" that when "Iconoclast" warned you about giving the COMPLETE serial number --- that the first three digits "378"-xxx are correct. If so, "v35", has called it correctly. I have one that was my grandmother's "house-gun" and the rest of the original box of cartridges that she had with it.
There is a person in my area who has an "ammo" license and does custom reloading. He would not do anything for me until I put it into his hands and the remains of the original box of cartridges. He then agreed to put together loads for me that were hollow points but would not stress the "I" frame that this revolver is build on. This is the one that is on my wife's side of the head-board.
