NE cartridges

Ok, so my understanding is that the .600 NE is legal because it doesn't use smokeless powder. What does it use then? Please, use simple language, cause I'm not a chemist. Also, how do the NE rounds compare to some of the other big-boys (.458, .460, .416, etc)? Thanks.

    we load our NITRO EXPRESS cartridges both ways.
    both smokeless and BP.
    we offer both the .600 NITRO EXPRESS and the .700 NITRO EXPRESS in smokeless powder loadings. to my knowledge these are perfectly legal to load, buy, sell, collect, shoot, etc...

    same with the .70-150 WCF, .577-450 MARTINI HENRY, 4-BORE, ETC...
    BP EQUIVS as well...
    i believe you are mistaken...

    What does "nitro-proofing" refer to? Like I said, I'm no chemist, so all I know about is black powder, and even that is a vague grasp.
