1889 ammo

Where can I get the specks for the old paper patch ammo for the swiss '89? Type of powder? I know the bullet size is .304 . But that is about all.

    I don't believe any of that old original paper patch ammo is available in shooting quanties. Only single rounds from specialist dealers for cartridge collectors. If you have one of the old Model 1889 Schmidt-Rubin's you want to shoot, you're going to have to reload for it. Try this site for guidance.

    I suspect if you were to use *very mild* smokeless loads for the 7.5x55 you would be OK. Norma still produces ammo & brass, although it is hard to obtain. You do *not* want to be buying original BP paper patch rounds in this cartridge. They are not merely a collector item, they are a *scarce* collector item and cost more per specimen than a *box* of the Norma!
