Savage smokeless powder muzzle loader???
Anyone using the savage 110ML smokeless powder muzzle loader? What powder charge and pills are working out for you? I am thinking about L'il Gun powder for a starter.

I have a Savage. I killed a deer with it last season.
I am shooting VihtaVuori N110. I shoot 43 grains with the Hornady 250 SST. This is a load that almost everyone gets good groups with.
Use either the Winchester or Federal primer, don't use Remington.
Another good powder is Accurate 5744, use 45 grains of that with the SST.
I urge you not to start out with Lil Gun. Though it is a very hot powder, it is finicky in the Savage and hard to get to group.
Also, Lil Gun will eat up vent liners like nothing else.
Be sure to let the barrel cool between shots, or you will never get the gun to group.
On a 70 degree day, wait 15 minutes between shots. At the range, keep the gun out of the sun so it won't get too warm.
It is a great muzzleloader. I am shooting 2 inches high at 100 and 3 inches low at 200, and coming out of the muzzle at 3,000 foot pounds.
Right out of the box I was getting 1 1/2 inch groups, as long as I waited 15 minutes between shots.0 -
allen,..she heats a barrel up that bad with only 50+ gr's of powder? WOW,...I guess it's good it is getting cool here this week.

43 grains is a lot of smokeless powder. After all it is giving you 3,000 foot pounds.
You need to take a careful look at the vent liner. Does it have one hole, or 3? The 3 hole liner was an experiment by Savage that didn't work out, but lots of rifles were shipped this year with it.
If you have the three hole, throw it away. Check the two extra liners you got, hopefully they are one hole. If not call Savage customer service and get one hole liners, probably they will send you some for free.
Be sure to lube the liner with anti seize grease, and to wrap the breech plug with teflon tape.
Vent hole liner longevity has to do with which powder you shoot and how much of it.
With Lil Gun don't expect more than 40 shots.
With the charges I recommended, you will get 100 shots, maybe 150.
The Savage is finicky about types of powder, bullet, primer, and barrel heating. But they are very accurate. They are a great hunting rifle, because that barrel is always cool for the first shot.
It is nice to be able to hunt all day and not have to clean your rifle.0 -
Allen,..I am not sure the shop has the AA powder,..and I know they don't have any N110,..but they do have the imr4227. With the season only 3 days away,...do you have any loads for the 4227 powder that can get me to Minute of Deer so I can hunt this early season? I will look for the AA powder,..and maybe I can borrow some N110,..but I don't think any of my rifle cohorts would have any laying around.

Try IMR 4759, use 43 grains with the 250 SST.
If all you can get is the IMR 4227, you must use the Federal 209A primer because it is hotter than the Winchester. Also, for 4227 use 45 to 47 grains and use the 300 SST. The 4227 has fallen out of favor because it is hard to ignite. The bigger bullet will create more pressure and give a better chance of ignition. Don't get me wrong 4227 is still used by a lot of guys, but the other powders give better ignition.

Remington primers are not favored by the Savage boys because they are not as hot, also they do not give good accuracy. 0 -
Allen,..I'll have to pull the liner today and check it out. All I could get was imr4227[:(] But hey,..I do have some of those old Alcan Max-Fire primers. I don't now how hot they are,..but in my 700rem they would be blown into 2 peices when they were extracted. That might be hot enough to get her going pretty good.
The manual stated that the hornady XTP pills were the most accurate,.so I got 20 of them. I do think I have a brand new pack of those T/C balistic tips in around 250gr from my old rig,..as well as a new pack of the 250gr barnes red-hots[}:)][:p]. Anyone having any luck with either of those? what about the 260gr win supreme partitions?

When they published the manual the SST had not been made yet.
Most guys have switched over from the XTP to the SST because the SST gets better ballistics and is a great deer killer, and is equal to or better than the XTP for accuracy.
Elk, moose, and a 1,200 pound buffalo have all been killed by Savage shooters with the 250 SST.
I have been giving you loads that are tried and proven by dozens of experienced Savage owners, with many thousands of rounds fired. Us Savage guys have made many mistakes with inaccurate loads, and loads that won't shoot at all.
As I have made clear, the Savage is the most finicky inline when it comes to powder, bullet, and primer.
