M1 carbine

I have a Rockola M1 Carbine with the barrel stamped.

    I was wondering if anyone knew a left handed saftey lever is avalible for the M1 Carbine or if its possible for the existing lever to be fliped around so it can be better opperated by a left-handed shooter.

    Late in WWII the War Dept adopted a select fire version of the M1 carbine that was officially designated "M2 carbine". These were made by Inland & Winchester, & were marked "M2 carbine" on the receiver. However, any M1 carbine could be easily converted to select fire by addition of about 10 parts (currently known as an "M2 parts kit"), & this was done at every level of ordnance. Sometimes the M1 marking was overstamped "M2"; Winchester even did this on many at the factory.

    All M2 carbines, M1 carbines converted to select fire, & M2 parts kits must be registered with ATF. Most that you find were commercially converted prior to 1986. A parts kit will cost you $2,000-3,000; a commercially converted carbine will cost $1,000-2,000 more; a USGI carbine (the only type that you would consider a military collectible) would cost
    whatever the market will bear. I haven't seen one for sale in several years, but I would not shop without $10,000 in my checking account.

    The only way to tell that a carbine is USGI is to look at the ATF Form 4 that always accompanies it; that will show the manufacturer.

    Don't know if this is the going rate but the last registered M-2 kit I saw advertised was listed at $4250.00. Little too rich for my blood but they are great fun to shoot, especially when uncle is furnishing the ammo and nobody is shooting back.

    Yes indeed,the M2 was fun to shoot when Uncle supplied the ammo.
    I was so spoiled I wouldnt use any boxed ammo, just that ammo supplied in ten round charger clips.
    I dont understand after the success of these charger clips,that
    the Army would supply AR charger clips with a separate loose piece
    magazine adaptor. It must be fun to struggle with all these loose pieces under the pressure of combat. False economy.
    They should go back to the old M1-2 style charger clips.

    Thanks for the info guys. Is the new reproduction M1 from Karr also convertable with a parts kit or is it of a totally different breed?

    The Auto Ordnance M1 carbine from Kahr cannot be converted to select fire by changing parts.

    Keep in mind, possession of an unregistered parts kit, even without a carbine, is a felony.

    Keep in mind that commercial receivers, bolts, etc. are not always produced to GI specs. with regards to heat treating, etc. Converting one to full auto, even if all legal requirements were met, might not be a wise idea. I have seen some commercial receivers that were damaged just from extensive semi-auto fire. Imagine what the terrific pounding from full auto would do.
