.223 ammo "wolf vs silver bear"
Opinions needed on shooting wolf or silver bear. Has anyone had problems with silver bear or Wolf?
Rifle to be used is a Bushmaster E2S A3 16"bbl 1:9 twist. Cheaper than dirt has the Silver bear ammo 62gr HP or SP 500 rds for $72.25.

I would NOT use either one in a ar-15, these firearms are not engineered to use steel case ammo!!!! you are just asking for problems down the road. the steel is to hard for the extractor !!!!STAY WITH BRASS!!!! 0 -
I will say what I always say when this question comes up. Although I don't have a 223 I buy the junk(cheap) ammo and shoot it in my SKS. The SKS cost $100.00. I would not shoot that dirty steel cased ammo in anything I cared about.

I know I asked for opinions--but--are you guys telling me that our US made rifles (bushmaster, DPMS, Rock River, Colt, Armalite),are built with inferior parts as compared to foreign countries ie; russia/china and will not withstand metal cased bullets because they are dirty and our extractors are not hardened? I love to shoot but as you know the cost of brass cased bullets are high, and I am not interested in re-loading my own.
Does anyone know of any studies from the US Manufacturers comparing steel vs brass cased bullets?0 -
Junk ammo is to guns as gasahol is to cars, you can use it but they will run like crap after a while. Others on the forums have had real problems with the 2 brands of ammo you mentioned me included. I had to have my Colt sent out and R&R'd because of it. You asked and were answered properly, ask to have this topic put on the General Discussion Forum and compare the answers there. You'll get an earfull.

Both are dirty and will gum up your gun fast.
You have $900 invested in that rifle don't shoot snot ammo through it.

I am not an expert on this subject, but Lake City Ammo and IMI ammo are both cheap alternatves, and are made for use in your gun.

Both Lake City and IMI ammo is currently offered for sale on GB at approx $140 per 1000rds, which is the same price you are looking at for the steel-cased russian stuff that could damage your rifle.

Weapons such as the SKS and AK varients are designed to work with just about any kind of ammo.. steel case.. brass case.. rusted and crud-encrusted ammo. Such tolerance for ammo is one of the reasons these weapons have proven battle worthy. They are hower, not as accurate or highly engineered(complicated) as the AR-15 and its clones. You have to use brass ammo of good quality in the ARs. This doesn't mean that ARs are inferior to AKs. The AR fits the modern US Army method of waging war... we dont have any problem with supplying our troops with good quality ammo or training them to clean their weapons. If you own an AR and want to take care of it, keep it clean and pay a little more for good ammo. Federal, Lake City and IMI are all fine and not that expensive when you buy 500 rounds at a time. 0 -
They both work just fine in my SAR3 and my AR180. I like the silver bear a little better. My 2 cents [8D]

I don't know for sure, but I think Silver Bear is corrosive; Wolf I know is not.
My buddies and I shoot Wolf in SKS and SAR-1 cause it's cheap.

I have shot the Wolf 7.62x39 in a SKS and it functioned fine, I have also shot the Wolf .223 in the AR series and full-auto versions of another weapon and have not experienced any major problems. The extractor is not expensive for the rifle, buy an extra and keep on hand just in case.
Several other things about the steel cases; Wolf has a lacquer finish over the steel case to prevent rust. If you shoot this type of ammo alot, clean the chamber frequent with a chamber brush and a good cleaner to remove the lacquer buildup. Silver bear is a nickle case (over steel) to prevent rust and chambering ease.
With both, you have to keep the rifle clean, paying especially to the gas tube, etc.

According to the site for info about .223/5.56 is that the NEW olf Polymer cased .223 is fine to shoot in your AR.
