Sell a CA handgun on GunBroker?

I've just spent several hours reading the incredibly disorganized CA firearms codes. I think there's a separate angle in there for just about every resident. It looks to me like the exemption that's cited from CA dealer involvement with firearms sales by transferring to an out-of-state FFL means I can legally offer and sell a handgun on Gun Broker without going through a CA dealer. Can anyone confirm that? What about shipping handguns out of CA? Both Fedex and UPS claim they will take handguns, but their policies regarding non-dealer senders are not clear. It's also hellaciously expensive. Anyone have any experience with this?

    Go with FedEx, anytime your dealing with firearms. With "BROWN" your just asking for trouble and aggravation.

    Since your a inmate of the Peoples Republic, be sure to check with FedEx ahead of time to make sure they will accept a handgun from a nonlicensee for a shipment to a FFL. In most states it's no problem, in Lala land everything cocerning firearms can be problematic.

    Both Fedex & UPS specifically prohibit non-licensees from shipping firearms that they have sold. They do, however, permit you to ship a firearm to an FFL or manufacturer for repair or customizing. So, if you go to the Customer Service Counter & fill out a shipping request that declares your packing contains a "firearm for repair", well, how will they know that it's not really being shipped for sale?

    Last year I called the 800 # for fedex and there was no problem shipping a handgun from Cal just as long as it was being shipped to a FFL. I recommend you call them your self for instructions.

    As a consumer in CA I have read the list of approved handguns from DOJ. The person in California can have any handguns sent to the FFL holder however if it's not on the list they may not pick it up. I figured as long as the person selling sent the gun to the FFL holder and got paid it's the buyers problem. I purchased a Scoremaster in December a few years ago but did not arrive at my dealer until January. At January 1 a new law took place which made me not able to pick up that gun since it wasn't on the DOJ list. So, I had it shipped to a friend's FFL (out of CA to his state) then he came down with it to do a person to person transfer.(made him bring a few more to make the trip worth while.

    Now I have purchased handguns from non dealers out of state and they took the handgun to their FFL holder. I then sent them the FFL from my dealer to them, then they sent out the piece with their FFL (this is very important). Wait 10 days, fill out paperwork and the DOJ fees, go home.

    As for handguns leaving CA nothing makes the meanies happier. Pretty much the steps to get the guns here to CA except the waiting 10 days. I've seen my dealer take the guns to the post office. I figure if you are not a dealer take the gun to a FFL holder and have him send it and just pay they guy the shipping cost and whatever he charges for the FFL.

    I have sold many items (firearms) on gunbroker.com and I also live behind the Feinstein Curtain. FedEx or UPS can and will ship firearms (handguns, shotguns and long rifles) from a non-licensed individual to an FFL. You must have a copy of the receiver's FFL, but that is all. Since they are regulated by federal code, Kalifornia has no say in what they do.

    While FedEx is better to work with and faster, it is far more expensive. I have used both UPS and FedEx, and I prefer UPS for the cost. Besides, they will pick up right at the house and are less testy about doing that.
