260 cal. What do you think of this cal.
My wife wants to hunt Whitetail deer this fall.
For a rifle for her I'm thinking of getting her a Rem.model-7
calibered in 260. What are you guys oppinions on this?
thanks for your input.

Good choice but you might also consider my favorite the 7mm-08. Both are mild recoil and will more than do the job. 0 -
Rick,
Excellent cartridge whether for your wife or anyone else for that matter. The rifle is a good choice also.
The .260 Rem. is seeing lots of duty with the longer range folks in both the standard form and the Ackley Improved version. The added interest in the .264 caliber has stimulated the bullet makers to produce a good selection of top quality bullets for hunting and target shooting.
Good luck!0 -
As already said good choice
My wife also hunts with the same
Great for long range
The only problem that I have is that she won't let me shot/hunt with it any more
Best of luck0 -
The ballistics of the 260 Rem are virtually identical with the 6.5 x 55mm cartridge, that the Swedes designed 100 years before the 260 saw the light of day. It was always considered a first rate sporting cartridge in Scandinavia, to bad it took our guys so long to pick up on it.

Good cartridge for deer and the Swedes use the 6.5x55 for moose. The ballistics are nearly identical. Another excellent choice for your wife would be .257 Roberts. Less recoil than a .30-30, and another fine deer cartridge out to 250 yards. 0 -
Again, going "retro" take a look at the 6.5 Japanese Arisaka. The cartridges are almost identical except for the semi-rim on the Arisaka.

The 260 would make a good deer rifle for your wife. There is getting to be a nice selection of bullets for reloading also. As everyone stated above it has good balistics and mild recoil. If I was not addicted too the 25 cals. I would have one myself. 0 -
thanks for all the input. my feelings pretty much mirror everyones here. as always we'll use any excuse to buy another gun.
thanks again everyone and good hunting.0 -
I know a gal that used to roll bucks all over South Texas with a 260 - great choice 0
