What is a C&R license? How does it differ from an FFL? Can the average guy get one? Thanks

    If you go to the BATF website, you can read about the C&R and see the list of firearms that can be purchased with one. The C & R is an FFL, but with very specific limitations. As Henry said, you may not deal in firearms, you may purchase in interstate transaction specific, mostly older stuff, but a lot of very desirable guns, such as Colt Woodsman. The permit costs $30 for three years. Mine took 8 months to arrive. I saved the $30 in the transfer fees not paid in the first rifle I bought. Do some searches through Google, there are a couple of sites with good how to information on the application and associated forms. You have to jump through exactly the right hoops, but it is not very difficult.

    You should also note that state laws must be complied with. Virginia for example allows the C & R purchase of only 1 pistol per 30 days.
