I have a IPB of the Winchester 62A which the Taurus is a "Knock-Off" of, it shows the rear sight being mounted on the barrel by a machined dovetail that is milled in the barrel.
Look at the side of the bottom part of the rear sight on the Taurus where it attaches to the barrel. It will be apparent if it is also dovetailed.
If it is, lay the rifle on a padded surface on it's side. Mask the barrel surfaces under and around the dovetail with duck tape, so you won't scratch them. Use a BRASS drift to drive the rear sight out of the dovetail. Have someone hold the rifle steady, the dovetails are a interference fit, sometimes it will take substantial hits to get it out.
Once it's out, replace it with a blank from Brownells, ( hopefully it's not a metric dovetail and they will have one to fit it ) so you won't have ugly open dovetail on your barrel.
