    JGA is Anschutz, but to further identify your pistol you would either need to give a more detailed description of the action or better yet, post a picture.

    My WAG is that it's a flare/signal pistol of some sort.

    Could you give us the physical dimensions and bore diameter?

    It's 6 in. long and the bore is 2 5/8 in. long.

    It's possible that if it dates to the 19th Century it didn't actually launch flares. A colored pyrotechnic single device was mounted on the "pistol", when the trigger was pulled, the "pistol" was held at arms length, the colored flare was used for signaling.

    the diameter of the bore is 3/8 in. and there is no marks that i can find.
