Can I use 2 3/4" shells in a 3" chambered shotgun?
I have a TC Encore 12g rifled slug gun with a 3" chamber. The 3" Remington Buckhammer sabots I ordered are on multiple backorder [:(], and the local stores do not seem to stock 3" saboted slugs.
Can I use 2 3/4" sabots (available locally) in this gun, or will there be some kind of jump to the rifling that might effect the sabot? [?]
PS: I know diddly about shotguns.
Thanks.

Yes, you can use any shells shorter than the chamber measurement, just not longer.

I understand what you mean when you suggest a 'jump' to the rifling. When talking about centerfire rifles, this is referred to as 'free-bore' and in some instances can actually improve accuracy.

A Jump? Hell yes, take off the barrel to you're shotgun, look down the chamber end, now.. see smoothness, then a lip, then rifleing? There's ya answer. The shotgun is chambered to 3" shells, throw in a 2 3/4, you're gonna have a 1/4 gap. Now.. Accuracy difference? On a deer, no.. On a grasshopper.. maybe.. If a shotgun is chambered to a size, my guess would be.. It's best operating would be with that size, but hell.. With a slug traveling over 800 feet per second, What is 1/4 inch of non-rifleing going to do anyway..

NOT A PROBLEM. HAVE A GREAT HUNT.

I have hunted with a Remington 870 Express for over 10 years. It is chambered for 3" shells, but I always use 2 3/4" Sabot slugs. My 870 will shoot clover leaf pattern groups at 75 yards all day long.
The slight increase in performance does not justify the extra recoil for me.

You can safely use 23/4" sabot slugs in a shotgun with a 3 inch chamber.

Sighted in my 870 yesterday using 2 3/4" Federal Sabot/Barns Expander HP. This is a different load than I have used in the past. After some slight adjustments, the last five rounds were dead center 4 touching and a fifth half an inch low at 75 yards.
