Old Iver Johnson

Hi,
I am new to this site, but when cleaning out my father's estate I found a revolver. Best I could come up with is that it is Iver Johnson 22 or 32cal five shot pistol. Has no seriel no, but does have Johnson Cycle Works on the barel, and an owl engraved on the handel. It is very rusted and frozen, but I am interested in some history and or value.

    while we are scratching our heads trying to figure which of the 100's of guns it could be, how about doing a gb search on iver johnson and click on some guns and see if you can find it on auction by someone else. in the meantime, we will start setting up our questions that should lead us to a correct assessment! good luck!

    Welcome to the forums. From your description it is hard to tell which model Iver Johnson you have, but it MIGHT be the "Safety Automatic Double-Action".

    This model was made from 1893 to 1950. In the condition you describe its value is about 40 to 50 dollars. Iver Johnsons are not what you would consider collectable guns.

    The company began in 1871 in Fitchburg Mass. In 1984 the company moved to Arkansas and was bought by American Military Arms Corp in 1987. Then in 1993 AMAC went out of business.

    Iver Johnson started as Johnson & Bye in 1871 in Worcester, Mass. In 1883 it became known as Iver Johnson's Arms and Cycle Works. In 1891 to 1982 at Fitchburg, Mass...The moved to Jacksonville, Ark.
    As to just which Pistol You have will require at the very least a photograph..and it would be nice to know just what caliber it actually is?....Being as its a 5 shot...I'd venture to say its a .32.....But is it the .32 S&W or the .32 long?...Furnish some more info and I/We can be of some help...No Matter what the Model and caliber is.....in the condition its in....is only going to be worth $25.00 as a Wall Hanger.......

    some of the things that will be needed to properly identify your revolver;
    1. complete and exact markings found on the top of the barrel & the side of the barrel if any.
    2. markings on the bottom of the butt.
    3. serial number either from the bottom of the butt or the left side of the grip frame (grips must be removed to see this location).
    4. type of frame (solid or top break).
    5. barrel length and caliber.
