Rem 121 pump - take down model ?
The smooth bore Remington I have on the block right now (http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=24067264)http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=24423035 (relisted with better pics, as you will notice, I did get it apart) has a big ol' take down screw on the left side, but loosening it doesn't seem to do anything. I tried with the slide open and closed. Tried tugging on the trigger group, it just doesn't seem to do anything.
Could it be there just for looks? (Unlikely in a rifle of that vintage, I would think).

Henry, Where on the left side? I know the 141 came in a takedown version, but not sure on the 121. Can you post or e-mail a better pic of the screw and it's location? Might jump start a few memory brain cells.

Henry ...its just tight. Cock the gun, loosen the screw and pull it out til it stops. With one hand hold the bbl/slide and then bump the toe of the stock with the palm of your hand.The stock and trigger group should seperate from the receiver.I f it doesn't work the first time just hit it harder!!!![8D]

I have the takedown instructions for the Model 12, as it was the pridssier of the 121, you can give it a try.
1), Loosen large takedown screw on left side.
2), Pull out screw to the left as far as it will go.
3), Hold rifle with left side down and pull trigger guard and stock assembly rearward out of the receiver.
As your rifle is over 60 years old, the action is probably full of cogealed oil and firing debris, you might have to spray with WD 40 or soak it in diesel, ( outdoors away from ignition sources ).0 -

Thanks, I got it apart and did a cursory punching of the bore. I haven't got my cleaning table set up here at my new digs yet.
Naturally, the bolt didn't want to slide right back in as easy as it came out. A little finagling did the trick though.

The Rem 12,121 and 25 have the same takedown. If it hasn't come apart
much, the parts will be snug, requiring some bumping on the pistol grip. The guns were polished assembled so if you're rough separating the parts, you will burr those tight matching surfaces. That also goes for assembly. To remove the bolt, bring the slide to the rear then lift the bolt up and out. To reassemble, move slide forward, put bolt in with locking lug in receiver slot . Move slide rearward and as slide meets the bolt, push both together . Then move slide forward. Assy and disassy require the assy bolt to be pulled out to the stop.0
