Help! Need info!
I'm in a debate with someone in the community regarding gun issues. I wrote a letter to the editor criticizing Kerry and bills he's supported and I got a rebuttal from someone and I want to make sure I've got my facts straight before I rebuttal his letter. I need some help.
First, how many shots does a Remington 1100 shotgun hold?
How many shells does a Browning Auto-5 shotgun hold (The name gives a pretty good hint).
Lastly, I know the NRA has stated that the "Armor piercing" bullet ban would ban .30-30 bullets. What is this based on?

Since the the 1930s, Federal Law has dictated that manufacturers must limit the maximum shell capacity to a total of three (3) (one in the chamber, and two in the magazine) for all Sporting (hunting) shotguns.
When the Browning A-5 was introduced back in 1902, no such laws existed yet, and it did indeed have a 5 shell capacity. As far as I know, the Remington Model 1100 has always held just three (3) shells.

Most (maybe all) Remington 1100's hold 1 (2 3/4" shell) in the chamber & 4 in the mag. They are all shipped with a removable plastic plug to restrict the size of the mag for hunting.

If the 1100 only holds 3 shells, why does the NRA mention it as a gun that would be banned under the bill Kerry had proposed. It ban's semi auto Shotgun's that hold 5 or more shells? I need this info to rebuttle this guy.0 -

So, it DOES hold 5 shells total! That's what I needed to hear to explain why the bill Kerry supported would ban that hunting gun. Thanks!0 -
I can't add much to what the other folkes said, but wish you the best of luck rebutting (that is, I believe, the correct use of the word in this case, so you would 'rebutt' to his reply) this Kerry-loving sack of she-yut! First off Powderhorn, Kerrys a liberal weenie, and he looks like Herman Munster.. Now.. Most sporting shotguns to my knowledge carry 5 shots, with a 3 shot restrictor plug (which I say, is nonsense, so my people.. Take out you're restrictor plug, and BURN IT!...) anyway, so yeah, both the Remington, and Browning hold 5.. And.. Why .30-30 they're trying to ban? That's the caliber that basically won the west.. And you got 160 grains of.. ROUND NOSE! Think about it.. The only thing a round nose bullet is going to go threw is well.. allot of things, but no way in hell a 30-30 is going to go threw what the liberals like to call 'armor' Meaning, tanks and what not. They're just a bunch of crocks that don't research they're stuff.. Damn Democraps. Actually almost any rifle caliber will go through most bullit proof vests. Almost all of them are rated on thier resistance to handgun rounds. So if you outlaw the production of any round capable of defeating the standard lightweight vest most often worn by police you would get most of the rifle calibers in existance. As for the 30-30 being specifically mentioned it''s because of the fact that in cases where a rifle was used to defeat a BPV and kill an officer it's the round used the most. It's more a question of availabilty than anything else . Their are an enormous amount of the around when you consider the model 94 Win and Marlin 336 have been in production in one form or another for 110 years

The Federal Migratory Bird Act restricted the number of shotgun shells which can be legally held at any one time in a shotgun (1 in the pipe and 2 in the mag). That covers all waterfowl, mourning doves, white-winged and white-tipped doves, and any other migratory bird species. Interestingly in Texas, we can hunt non-migratory upland game birds without a plug restriction (5 shells). However, don't try that for migratory game birds here in TX--big $$. 0 -
First off, congratulations for having the gumption to write a letter to an obviously anti-gun Editor/readership; if more well-informed people did that, there'd be fewer politicians counting on idiots to get elected.
The shotgun Kerry was fumbling with during his "pro-gun photo op" was a Remington 11-87, and holds 5 shells without the plug. Mossberg makes several shotguns that hold more, as do Benelli, H&K, Saiga,etc.
The only time I ever heard about a LEO getting killed while wearing a vest; the shooter had a .357mag and shot him in the head.
NILECJ Level 4 vests are tested against .223, 7.62x39, and other rifle threats and are designed to defeat them. Trouble is, they weigh an unGodly amount, and are hot, uncomfortable and stiff; would you want to wear one for your 8-10 hour shift?
