20 GA o/u for trap?

I was wondering if you can use 20 ga 26" barrel O/U for trap.
My wife has been using BT99. But since she is 5'2" she has trouble handling it. So we went to Galyan's and I had her hold few 20-ga o/u and she liked them. The stocks were shorter and guns lighter. Now can she use let say White Onyx O/U 26" barrel and if yes what chokes for trap. Another thing is recoil. Since I do not reload [|)] I was wondering which load in 20 ga should I use to make easy on her.

She can use any shotgun in trap. The only disadvantage would be the lighter load of lead pellets going toward the clays. 0 -
it is true that you can shoot anything you want for fun shooting, but its not kosher. trap was designed for 12ga and ata rules require it for competition. trap shooters will give you the evil eye if you carry a 20 onto the field and rightfully so. they dont like the chance of someone accidently dropping a 20 into a 12 by mistake. just leave an extra 20 in your pouch and refill it with 12's and change guns someday...it CAN happen. for safety, the crowd likes to stick to 12. if you didnt buy a monte carlo stock on that gun, you gave her a real bad disadvantage of trying to hit targets with a line of sight gun. i dont know many 26" guns with m/c stocks. i may be wrong. now, to get your 20ga to act like a 12, youre gonna have to step up to 20ga 1oz loads or field loads with 3 dram eqivilents. rule of thumb...less pellets allow more gunpowder. more gunpowder is more kick. more pellets require hotter powder in less a space. more kick. you cant get away from it. you got to get more pellets out to the target. the only way is to shoot 1oz. loads. then its required to get it moving with less powder, so you got to use a hot powder. kick returns. youre stuck. see my point? 12ga is so much better. so, anyway...shop for a field load 20ga to get it to act like a 12, but dont expect miracles.

Start reloading. My buddy's girlfriend is the same way--she loves shooting, but hates recoil. He loaded some 12 gauge shells with 20 gauge charge and shot. It works just fine, plus, you never have to worry about a 12-20 burst. Just make sure you get the right wad, and cards, if necessary.

The reason is that she loves the look of the BT100 (actually I made mistake in my previous response she got BT 100)
The BT 100 is Monte Carlo stock with 30" barrel. She loves it but 2 things that matter are recoil and the stock size. I am looking into possibility of either shorting the stock or buying adjustable one.
As far as loads I bought some 12GA AA 2.75 dram 8 shot and it was better. We shoot for fun and that about it, and besides I am tired of paying 5 bucks for box of decent ammo. Eastwood, can you get me the reloading data for the round that your buddy reloaded.

that can be a whole new thread in itself, but just my 2 cents worth, get a mec600jr and youll be set for life. even a nice used one is just as good. they never wear out. take a look around the auctions and put a wanted ad in the wanted section and youll get hits galore. 0 -
I don't the chance to shoot much trap but I still bang a case or two of clays in the backyard each summer. I'm 6'8" tall and when I head to the field, the first shotgun I grab is my 20ga Red Label with 26" barrels. I love the feel and balance of it and only had to install a thicker recoil pad to pick up my line-of-sight a bit. I also reload for hunting(MEC 600JR) but when I'm just playing around I trot off to WalMart and get a bulk case of Federals oor Winchesters in 7.5 shot. The boys make fun of me with my 'girl gun' but they stop laughing when the geese are dropping.
