Looking for value of Chinese AK

Probably a norinco (if it's chinese) and most I see go for around $300. If it's a polytech it should be worth at least twice that. The pawn shop won't give you what it's worth; sell it in your local paper if you don't want to list it on gunbroker.

Need more info on it. Before what ban? Threaded barrel? Bayonet lug? Slant break? How is it marked?

First off, it is unlilely that it is a AK74 design and more likely an AK47 design. Secondly if it is a correct all original Chinese AK with the box, the bayonet, sling, 3 -30rd mags, cleaning rod and cleaning kit, it should be worth $650-900. I have sold Chinese AK's since 1986. If the pawn shop isn't willing to give a reasonable amount for it, you should buy from him or sell it for him here on GB. The "pre-ban" Norinco's and Polytech's haven't come into the country since March of 1989. They are worth more than the more recent imports from Romania and the like. Of course if it is a later "post-ban"(1989), then the values will be notably less and closer to the $300-400 as previously mentioned.

Wow! Thanks for all the info guys. I don't much much about the gun other than what I posted. It was purchased in the late 80's for about $225 from a friend of my Dad's. Soon after he purchased it, they had those school shootings in California and the assault rifle ban hit.

I will try to get some pics from him and get them posted here in the next day or two. Thanks again for the information.

It sounds like the AK47 not the 74. It should have all the accessories
like sling, three mags, bayonet, cleaning kit, oil bottle and gas port cleaner plus a manual in the box.
    Is this a 223 (5.56mm) or a 7.62x39?
I believe a like new in the box Norinco with fixed stock should bring near $800-1000.

It could be a Norinco, Polytech, Polytech Legend. all Legends come with a Bayonet, 3 mags with chrome followers and had a milled reciever.

Polytechs were Sheet metal and had a spike bayonet attached.

Norincos were also Sheet metal had Spike or Blade bayonet attached and the wood was a light color.

    Muffinman,

A correction, not all Legends came with bayonet, three mags, and chrome followers. The Polytech Legend "National Match" series, which is a true Legend, came with no bayonet, one 30 round mag, one five round mag, a milled receiver, and the "Legend" manual as well.

To err is human, to moo is bovine.

Preban Norinco 56s series had detacheable knife bayonets as did Polytechs. I believe some of the earlier AK imports had spike or knife folding bayonets.
