an older pump shotgun /cleaner
Hi fellows, 2 questions here. About 25 years ago I bought a 12 ga. pump shotgun from eastfield MA company The gun would fire if you held the trigger down and worked the slide action. Why is it that my newer shotguns will not do this? And how would you clean and unrust a shotgun that you lended to a friend 20 years ago and he never cleaned or nothing. I just got the shotgun back and it is rusted shut. Thanks for your help!!!.

Older shotguns that were designed and manufactured years ago, didn't have a internal part called a DISCONNECTOR. Lack of this part enabled them to be fired by just holding down the trigger and racking the slide. To my knowledge all modern pump shotguns are manufactured with disconnectors.
Soak your shotgun OUTSIDE in a SAFE area ( away from any ignition sources) in either kerosene or diesel fuel. Hopefully with enought soaking you will be able to operate the mechanism, so you will be able to take it apart for a proper cleaning.
