I have been wanting a nice single action revolver for a while, but have a hard time finding one with most of the features I find most appealing.

I have liked the idea of black powder, and I like the overal look of a Ruger Army 45, but that is a cap-n-ball. Which I wouldn't mind, but seems like a lot of work. I have heard of black powder cartirdges somewhere...do those exsist? Self contained? (sorry, but I do like the idea of smoke [:D])

I also like the style of a break action. (I don't knwo the proper term for revolvers like that, just shotguns)

I don't mind if it has to be a modern smokeless cartridge, but I would prefer something in a 41 or smaller.

    What is a good, reliable entry level cowboy gun that has the same features and design as the 1873 colt?

    http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/BlkPowder/black_powder_guns2.htm have a look at some of these bp revolvers you may find the features you want on one of them.

    Hello check out something like NAVY ARMS new model RUSSIAN it is a remake of top break S&W No. three single action UBERTI has same gun

    you can send the Ruger Army 45 out and have a new cylinder made for it that will use 45lc cartridges, that is the only change that is made to the gun , just swap the cylinder out and you can shoot 45lc or put the black powder cylinder back in that shoot it as a black powder revolver, i can't tell you who does the conversion but you should be able to find out about them

    Both R&D and Kirst make conversion cylinders for a number of black powder revolvers. I couldn't find the web site for R&D, but Midway http://www.midwayusa.com and Taylors http://www.taylorsfirearms.com both handle the R&D conversion cylinders. The web site for Kirst is http://kirstkonverter.com.

    I have a R&D .45 Colt conversion cylinder for my 1858 Remington .44 percussion revolver, and it works fine.

    I like the .45 LC, have a 4 1/2 inches barrel Ruger Vaquero bird's head stainless steel with black Micarta grips.... Great pistol

    thanks Raoul! I knew some one would know what i was talking about, I handled a old army at the last gunshow I was at that had been converted , boy it was nice [:D]

    Thanks for all the info. I have been surfing the web a lot and have found a lot of interesting things that just bring up an endless amount of more questions.

    First and formost I think is:

    Whats with a lot of the talk of black power pistols needing modifications right off the bat to keep them from destroying themselves?

    I like the look and characteristics of the Scholfield, but that seems like there are few people making them and even fewer in a reasonable price range. ($500 give or take)

    I like the Thunder from Cimarron. Anyone use one before?
