Date of Manufacture and Value of Mauser HSc

I recently purchased a Mauser HSc Pistol in .380. It is an Interarms import made in Germany and it is an American Eagle Edition "one of five thousand".

The serial number is in the low 1200's, and the pistol is new in box. The only wear is from the slide being worked, therefore I would estimate blueing at 98%. There are no scratches or minor flaws on any of the metal or wood. Includes extra magazine and both magazines are in factory condition.

Box is in factory condition but styrofoam liner has some oil stains. Owners manual and factory test targe are included. Cardboard coverslip for box has shelfwear and is bumped on corners.

Can someone give me an approximate value on this pistol and the approximate date of manufacture of this "one of five thousand" series?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    You really can't say your pistol is "new in box", as that implies that it is in the same condition as it left the factory, which it obviously is not. Even it hasn't been fired, the fact that it has 98% bluing makes it a "gun with 98% finish, in the worn original box with papers".

    This gun was imported 1983-1985; S. Fjestad's Blue Book of Gun Value, indispensible in identifying & pricing guns, shows a retail value of $325 in 98% condition.

    Since you recently purchased it, the "real" value is whatever you paid for it.

    My references note that these late manufacture ( 1980's production ) commercial Hsc's were made under license by Gamba in Italy, rather then Mauser.

    If yours was made by Mauser it MIGHT have a positive affect on the value?

    This HSc pistol was made in Germany prior to Mauser selling its license and the later pistols being manufactured in Italy.

    Thanks for the reply. I had a .32 cal. HSc WWII issue back in the early 19880's. Complete with original holster and extra magazine. Unfortunately I needed money when I was in undergraduate school and parted with it for $250.00. Since then, however, I have been a great fan of the pistol. It is reliable, comfortable and well built.

    While I can appreciate the collector mentality, I have yet to own a weapon that I did not intend to either use or sell immediately. Your sage advice has given me the go ahead to enjoy the pistol and then sell it later if someone is willing to pay my asking price.
