Hello Iowa shootguns have two ways of dealing with fired shells just so we are on the same page let me explain these 2 ways .Extractor this moves the spent shell a small amount and most times works with a cam that is moved in opening the action if this is the type you have then you have a worn part if it is not working.Ejector is when the spent shell is thrown clear of the gun on opening most of the time a spring is compressed on closeing the action the ejector itself has a hook and latch and it is almost like cocking a hammer when you fire gun and then open the action it is almost like pulling the trigger and the ejector spring snaps the shell out if this is the type you have 3 things can give you problems weak or broken spring.latch and hook surface worn not cocking and most of the time Rust or dirt in chamber.Hope this is of some help .This is how a single barrel or sxs works not pump or auto.
