Help on an old rifle.
I am the heir of a rifle that my great-grandfather recieved as a gift for purchasing the lumber for his barn at a lumber yard in Minnesota. I do know that the rifle is a trade gun but beyond that I know nothing. The rifle itself is a pump .22 cal, on the left side of the receiver it is stamped "King Nitro, Central Arms Company, St. Louis, Missouri", on the bottom of the receiver just forward of the trigger guard it is stamped "1886K", and on the top of the chamber it is stamped "22S.L&LR". The rifle is mechamically in very good condition (the action works smoothly and it fires clean). the forearm and stock are in fair condition but the rifle has all components. What I would like to know is when was the rifle made and if it is worth insuring for other than an heir loom. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a reference that notes "Central Arms Co" was a trade name used on guns sold by the Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St. Louis Mo. Shapleigh was in business until the Depresson years of the early 1930's.
A number of manufacturers are listed as producing guns for Shapleigh. Stevens being one of them. Your rifle MIGHT be a "Hardware" version of a Stevens "Visible Loader"? Stevens made these .22 pumps from 1907 to 1934.
