Looking for AK Accessories
Looking for some AK-47 accessories, such as forward grip, collapsible stock or folding stock. Couple problems though, they make so many variations of AK's I don't know what is right for my gun. Also I realize the ban has expired but isn't that only for american made assault rifles? Only markings I see on the AK are AKS-762 7.62x39mm Semi-Auto SP 386 CW-xxxxx then by the mag KFS Atlanta, GA then under that Made in CHina (so where does this mean its manufactured) There is something else by the stock but its cut off by it, can't read it without taking off the stock(Looks like POLY or something). Are these considered good AK's anything you can tell me about them. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you have a preban AK made in China by Poly Technologies and imported by Kengs Firearms Specialty who were major importers of semi automatic AKs many years ago. These are considered to be very good examples of the Chicom AKMs and were built to MILSPECs. As a pre-1989 imported rifle you can add any accessories you please but these rifles are rather collectable now and most add- on accessories will only cause it to drop in value so I suggest that you don't make an permanent modifications to the rifle itself.

Mark, thanks for the quick reply. I bought this gun from a dealer, for 350 I believe about 2-3 years ago. Only alteration I made to it was added a B-square scout mount since the other mounts were attached only on the dust guard. The thing would never stay in focus. Any idea on the value of this now? And would it be easier to identify if I hosted some pics of the gun for you? THanks again Mark. 0 -
Well since you drilled holes in it, The value can be less. I new in box runs around $1100.00, While a used no box rifle only can be around $800.00+
I have several Stamped and 2 Milled Legends. These rifles are the closet copies to be found of the Vet Nam years of AK's.0 -
Seems like you may have a Mak-90 made by Poly tech. The thumbhole stock covers up the rest of the stamping. If so you will have to add 5 or 6 US parts to put on some of these accesories. I am lookng to do the same on a norinco Mac-90 myself to add a CHinese stock. A pic would help identify it.

I didn't drill any holes in it, the B-Square scope mount just replaces the receiver pins with a bolt, that is threaded on both ends and then the mount secures to that. You are correct it is a thumbhole stock but I don't see MAK-90 anywhere on it. Here are some pics:

Too bad, I wish you would have mentioned the thumbhole stock in your first post as it would have saved considerable time. What you have is simply one of the many PolyTech rifles which was modified by the importer after the 1989 ban by grinding off the bayonet lug, welding a break over the threaded muzzel, and adding a commmercial plastic Dragonove-style stock to allowed it to be sold in the USA. Southern Ohio Gun was selling these for around $300 several years ago and there is nothing collectable about it, I am sorry to say now. There is no chance for a folding stock or pistol grip unless you add enough USA compliant parts to the rifle to have it no longer considered an import. You can add a front pistol grip it you wish however. A great call by jaoob who figured out exactly what the rifle actaully was while others here (like yours truely) were dreaming of a nice preban PolyTech AKM!

thanks everyone for your help, so if I choose to sell it, somewhere in the neighborhood of 350-400 w/ the scope and the 2 40 rd mags?
BTW as far as the gun goes, is it considered a MAK-90 as Jaoob indicated? What is the verdict on these guns as far as accuracy, quality and how long will the barrel and receiver hold up? I have heard on some cheap ak's 2000rds. Thanks again.0 -
Most folks call that particular rifle a MAK-90 although technically only Norinco made rifles are MAKs. This is the same as people refering to every AR style rifle as an AR-15 when in fact only a rifle built by Colt and correctly stamped is an AR-15. Your rifle was built by PolyTech to a higher standard of quality than the Norinoc rifles (or so most ChiCom AK lovers claim) and should bring a premium. I'd say you should be able to get your $350 back with litle or no trouble, although I'd bet the rifle would sell just as easily without the current accessories hanging all over it, none of which will add much to its resale value. Accuracy is not the strong suit of any Kalashnikov and even the most basic AR rifle will out shoot nearly any AK. The quality of your rifle is very good and you will be able to fire well over 2,000 rounds without concerns that the rifle will be worn out.

Mark is right on the Norincos being called a Mac-90 I do not know what the Polytech is called.
I believe like Mark does that the Polytech is just a little better quality AK than the Norinco. I also think you would have no problem getting your money out of it. My own opinion (for what its worth) is I would change out enough parts to make it compliant.
You have an excellent base to start with. Such a rifle should give you many years of fun and happiness.
Or put it on GB and I will make the first bid at 350.00 unless someone beats me to it.

THanks alot jaoob, haven't really considered selling it yet. Wasn't really too interestedin any conversions either. Just more or less wanted to know. I don't ask much of a rifle just some knock down power, alot of rounds, and accuracy. And what this one is lacking in the accuracy department it makes up for in rounds(side by side 40 rounders) But if I were to sell it it would be for either a 308 Bushmaster or Armalite. Reason being I feel as though they are the most reasonable high caliber assault rifles, that holds a decent amount of rounds, are accurate, and can be heavily modded. And the carbine which I like sells on Bushmaster website in the vacinity of 1400 bucks. Anyone seen any BAR-10's at the local gun dealers, haven't seen any street prices yet. Though I like the HK91 it is very bulky, and could never spend 3500 on a rifle. 0 -

I'm going to chime in here. Mark and others suggest that you add the required American made parts to install any mods. I could be wrong but, I'm going to point something out. Please let me know if I'm mistaken. You already are in violation of the required American parts for modifications. Those 40 round mags that are attacthed to your rifle didn't come with it. Originally it came with 5 round or 10 rounders. Doesn't the add on mags classify it as a mod?[8D]
