I love mine. I bought it thru gunbroker. When I took it to the range, I fired 3 pellets of Hodgens 7 for 150 grain black power load. It was fun to shoot and I got it sighted in with a scope. With 3 .50 cal Hodgens 7 pellets, this is probably the most powerful rifle I own.
The Hodgens 7 is cleaner than Pyrodex, which is much cleaner than BP. There are more powders, such as Clean Shot(?) Which is have not tried. It did kick like a mule. I love the gun.
However, CVA said that this is a mag gun and you could fire 150 grain loads, when I got home from the range and read the Hodgens 7 package, it said to disregard the gun manifactures instructions and only fire 2 pellets max. There may be someone out there that knows more about this than I.
Let me add that cleaning was very easy.0 -
CVA has a VCR tape that came with my rifle. It explained in detail everything that I had a question about. If you are new to black powder shooting, I would suggest you get this VCR tape. 0 -
What scope and rings did you use on the optima? 0 -
The scope is an older 4 X 32 Tasco that I had for years. The rings are the blackpowder rings I bought at Walmart. 0
