U.S. Carbine 30 cal. M-1 Inland Division
This is my last question and I'll leave you guys alone. Again, recently received from my grandfather two US Carbine: one is cal. 30, M-1, Inland Division, Serial Number 6310*** with a "P" on the stock, "59" stamped on the receiver, and "JM" on the forearm. The second one is M-1 30 cal, Inland Division, Serial Number 5138***, "P" on the stock, with what appears to be a bayonette mount on the barrel, "AA" and "AS". I can find no indication of age. However, quality and finish are excellent. Please give me a clue of date of manufacture. My guess is used in Korean War. Again, not for sale but for sentimental value only. Thanks much. Earl.

Earl.... General Motors Inland Division recieved their contract for 336,698 carbines on Nov 25th 1941 because Winchester could not fill the governments initial order for 700,000 guns.
Of course about 2 weeks later we were forced into WWII when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The Inland Division ultimately made 2,642,097 carbines between 1942 and 1945. I cannot give you an exact date of manufacture of your carbines, but they were made during WWII.
M-1 carbines, and the select fire M-2 carbines were heavily used during the Korean War, but they were virtually all made during WWII.

Lefty is correct nearly all M1 carbines were made during WWII,also your serial number 5138XXX was rebuilt at least twice,once at Auguata and once at Savannah. 0 -
