Winchester model 12 adjusting sleeve HELP !

I have a winchester model 12 12ga with a loose barrel/takedown. I think i need a new adjusting sleeve but i'm confussed about which one i need to order. They come in 1 thru 6 in heavy draw but how does one determine which one to order? is there a way to measure or gauge the loosness in order to figure out which adjusting sleeve would fix it? any help at all would be appriciated.

btw ive already tried adjusting this one to the max and its still loose... the gun was made in 1915 and i think its the original adjusting sleeve in it, could it just be wore out? if so would a new standered adjusting sleeve fix it?
also any leads on where to buy an adjusting sleeve would be appriciated

    It indeed appears like you are in need of replacing something, but without looking at the gun myself, I am not comfortable telling you what to replace. Dave (only winchesters) will be along shortly, and I feel confident that he can assist you better than I can. Good luck, and I admire the fact you are trying to keep that old Winnie in shooting form[^].

    Hello Mauser C: Well I too, like Bert, (afternoon Bert) can't tell you exactly. However the gun came with a #1 sleeve when new. Since your gun is almost 90 years old, I have no idea if that's the original sleeve. Number 1 sleeves generally are not marked only 2-6 are, the higher the number the more draw you get. If the gun has been shot much while in the loose condition you may need a new barrel chamber ring also. I would start with a #2 sleeve, I believe www.e-gunparts.com has them, about $35. You may want to have a gunsmith who has the tools and knowledge do this, if the barrel chamber ring is bad, you could have too much head space, and continuing to shoot the gun will cause further damage. When the barrel is fit properly there is a "zero" gap between the chamber ring and the barrel chamber. You can see this, with the breech bolt open.

    thanks! my sleeve isnt marked so im guessing it was a number 1. I just ordered a number 2 sleeve, hope this tightens the old gal up.
