Your forecast on the AK-47

[8D] Hey, from sunny Florida (and the evenings are starting to cool off!!)

I've been holding off buying an AK for lots of reasons...but the assault rifle ban dying got me to thinking one more thing...OK, maybe two:
1). Are AK going to start selling a lot cheaper?
2). Are "better" quality AK going to show up on the market.

Lastly, regardless of your input for my inquiry, what's your pick for the best all around AK? Do you like milled versions?

    I've got a Romanian AK. No misfires, no jams. Added a red dot scope to it. Got 5 30 round mags and one 50 round mag. I think its cool and was only 295.00.

    Kalashnikov rifles remain unimportable without considerable modifications performed inside this country (such as on the Romanian rifles) because the 1994 Crime Bill did not have any effect on either of the two bans (one for Bush and one from Clinton) on military sytle long guns. If no one is making an AK you like at a price you can afford today then I see little chance that anything new is going to come along unless another firm sets up an AK production facility somewhere inside the United States to get around the import bans. The AK quality question has come up here about 500 times, matched only by the same question applied to AR-15 type rifles, so you should be able to run a search and get tons of opinions or you can visit www.ak-47.net

    I wouldn't waste too much time making up my mind. I also wouldn't waste too much faith in a dead AWB after the election. The AK is right up top on the anti's list and they don't sleep on the gun issue.

    Agreed, the true SARs are fine. I have a SAR 3 I have been thinking about putting on GB. Look for it maybe? nambu

    Nothing beats an AK from Arsenal (arsenalinc.com). It will cost you a couple of hundred extra, though...

    Or you could really go overboard and look for an M-62 Finn or the later 76 (hope I'm right on those model numbers). I shot an early model last year through a contact at Knob Creek and had a hell of a good time with it! Military issued or not, even on full auto it was surprisingly controlable and accurate. If you don't want to go the Class 3 route, I secong the Krebs custom suggestion...really nice guns, at least the ones I've shot.

    Picked up a Romanian for $299 and love it. Mine out shoots my SKS, which is not saying much. The pistol grip makes it a little easier to shoot. Mags are cheap, ammo cheap, great gun. I don't think they will come down to SKS prices.
