Holding Flint in Flintlock
I've got 7 flintlock rifles and pistols--but the flints are loose. I seem to recall the shooters use something in the jaws to help hold the flint. What is it and where do I get it? Thanks.

Hello you need to have something that is soft enough to pad the flint but hard enough to hold it firm the two things that I and most of my friends use are an old piece of thin leather like a shoe tongue or a thin sheet of pure soft lead about .030 thick 0 -

i concur with the choice of a leather wrap / shim...
non-traditional shoters may also used rubber gasket / inner tube as a substitute...
there are also differant types / angles / sizes of flint available...
differant guns / types of gun / types of flintlocks utilize differant sizes / accomodate differant shapes of flint as well...

I use a lead ball flattened with a hammer, the lead is soft and replacements are always available. 0 -

All gave you excellent advice Hairy but I have found that leather works best due to lead over time gets too thin and needs replaced where as leather does not. If you do not find any suitable leather, let me know and I will send you some because I have lots of elk, buffalo, deer, as well as other types of leather.
