Looking for a model 12 in 20ga. or 12ga. made in 1953. What ser. # range would I be looking for?

Can a winchester model 12 12 gauge 2 3/4" chamber be modified ( have chamber lenghtened) to shoot 3" shells
The reason i ask is i own a model 12 roit gun (watts commemorative edition[:D]) which is in like new condition. I would like to purchase a extra barrel/ mag,forearm which i see a lot of on ebay. I would like to have a spare duck gun realize the new set up will have to be fitted .What i really wanted was a 12 heavy duck

Welcome to the forum Rob! Years ago when the "Duck gun" came out, (1935)Winchester offered to convert any standard Md 12 to a "Duck gun" so yes it can be done. How ever the cost to do so today, you can buy a real nice "Duck gun" In a nut shell here's the difference:
1) Barrel
2) Magazine band
3) Action slide, (the metal)
4) Breech bolt
4) Trigger guard assy.
5) Cartridge stop
6) Weighted butt stock
Those are unique to the "Duck gun" then Winchester would open up, (machine) the ejection port, and the recess on the top inside of the receiver.
It would be much easier to buy a "Duck gun" and have your standard barrel assy. (entire front half) fitted to it. Then you would have to find a gunsmith who specializes in Md 12 repair. (I know a few) Parts alone would run $350-$500, and at least $250 for the gunsmith to do the conversion. email me if you want more info, just click on onlywinchesters to the left. Regards Dave0
