Old Charter Arms and a Ruger Bearcat
I just recently purchased an older model Charter Arms "Undercover" .38 spl. Serial number 67XXX. I was hoping that someone out there would have any history, and approximate value, on this little revolver.
I am also looking at purchasing a older model Ruger Bearcat .22 LR. It has a serial number of 79XXX. Any approximate value or history would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any replies!

I cannot help with the Charter Arms, but I own 2 older Bearcats. One is a Super Bearcat and the other a Bearcat.
The Super Bearcat has an all steel frame versus the aluminium alloy frame of the Bearcat. These are fun little guns. The older Bearcats were made from 1958 to 73, and the older Supers were made from 1971-73.
Bearcats range in value from about $300.00 to $350.00 depending on condition. You can probably add $50.00 to $100.00 if it has its original box.

Thanks Laredo, I forgot to state that the Bearcat is in about 90% condition. Does that affect the price you quoted me?

Charter has been through several incarnations since the 1960's. First was Charter Arms, which made yours, then Chartco, then Charter 2000 which I believe is the current manufacturer. While safe & reliable, they don't have the fit & finish of higher price guns such as Colt or S&W. They get little respect today.
Gun values can be found by doing a Gunbroker "SmartSearch" on completed auctions. Only look at the prices actually offered (or paid), not at the asking price.

Yes, in about 90% cond your at about $300.00.
There were some early Bearcats sold with 22 mag cylinders but they were quickly recalled by Ruger, so early Bearcats with both cylinders are very rare.
The new model Bearcats have a slightly longer frame and the transfer bar hammer safety. With the longer frame the new models were sold with a 22 mag cylinder.
