What do you think about this?
I'm trying to develope a method of measuring the resistance that a bullet would have as it deformed inside an animal. It would be comparable to the Ballistic Coefficient assigned to a bullet for it's resistance as it moves through air. At one end of the spectrum would be a full jacket, spitzer that stays point forward and does it's best to speed on through with as little slowing as possible. At the other end would be varmint bullets that disintegrated into dozens of particles, each having a great deal of relative resistance, so giving up their velocity almost immediately. Somewhere in the middle would be bullets that retain core integrity, but have frontal expansion that increases the bullet frontal area, and flattens that area so it is less streamlined. Anybody have any thoughts on how a measuring system could be setup for this? Anyone understand what I'm trying to explain? Anyone think it's clearly a hairbrained, useless idea from someone with too much time on their hands?

I see where you're coming from and don't think it a bad idea. BUT..don't know how you'd develop a formula. You'd have to have an optimum performance criteria. Say..a bullet that mushrooms to 10x @ y inches of penetration being the unattainable top of the scale. People have been firing into all sorts of mediums for a long time trying to rate lethality. Trying to come up with a universal scale is beyond me. 0
