Do I need to worry about this?
I'm reloading 12 gauge shells according to the recipe off of hodgdon.com, everything to the letter. Well, my crimps are too deep, so I stopped pulling down all the way on the lever--i.e. the top is sealed, but there is a gap between the top of the shot and the crimp. Is this a dangerous situation, like gaps in muzzleloaders, or is it going to be safe?
Ideas, opinions, advice appreciated. Thanks.

Triple check your shot and powder charges with a scale.
Triple check that you are using the exact hull and wad the recipe calls for. These things are not interchangeable.
You should not have the empty space you are describing.

Everything's right, but it doesn't answer my question as to whether or not I can shoot the rounds safely.

It sounds to me that you need to lessen your wad pressure, if all is right with everything else. What is happening is that you are pushing the wad down to far. 0 -
Eastwood, they are "safe" to shoot, but probably won't give you a decent pattern. They won't cause high chamber pressure as would a short-seated ball in a muzzlestuffer, but as the wad slams the shot together when you shoot, the shot can become distorted and won't fly right.
I'm guessing you are using the wrong wad if you have triple-checked the powder charge and the shot charge and they are "on the books."0 -
What type of loader are you using? If a MEC it may just need the crimp adjusted, or could be too much wad pressure as stated previously,which can also be adjusted.Do you have the manual that came with the loader?
