7.82 Lazzeroni Patriot

I am trying to find loads not published by Lazz. I am loading and shooting Lazz/BarnesPlated XBT @67 gr. Reloader 15 @ 3640 fps. We are shooting the 24" Savage Lazz's and geting about 3/4" @ 100 yds. Would like to hear from any shooting this littleround

    Unfortunately, you are in probably the smallest of percentages of shooters in the U.S. by using the Patriot in combination with the Lazerhead bullets. I think that it's a great combination but you're fighting an uphill battle from the standpoint that there just aren't very many folks shooting this cartridge let alone with this bullet and powder. So loads are going to be few and far between. However...

    In generalities, if you're looking for more velocity, I'm betting that you will have to go with a longer barrel since you appear to be at the upper end of John's spectrum. There are other powders to try and you might get slightly improved accuracy but you will have to do the testing, there's no way around that. I would look at V V N-550 and Ramshot (Western) Hunter Powder. I have been getting some very accurate loads using both types of powder. One thing to be aware of is that the most accurate loads may not be at the upper end of your velocity range. Mostly, that's a given. One thing that you can use for comparison is load data for the 300 WSM as both cartridges are very similar in case capacity and design. Note that I am NOT telling you to use their data directly! Use it as a guide only.

    The second bit that I can pass on, you may already be aware of and that is the position of the Barnes bullet in relationship to the throat or leade. In all of the Barnes data, they tell us to back the bullet off of the lands by 0.050" or more to start. Low and behold, accuracy CAN be improved by not being right on the lands! I've seen this in my own rifles. Be aware that your pressure will rise if you use your current load and just seat the bullet deeper into the case.

    The accuracy that you say you are gettting is right with what John states on his website. The 300 WSM's amd RSAUM's that I've worked up loads for, perform better at the slightly lower velocities that right up at the very top end.

    Those loads are for the Warbird which is the really big cartridge similar to the 300 RUM. There are "0" loads for the Patriot.

    Starvinfloyd: are you talking about the 150 grain laserhead bullet?
    Also, if you call Jim Lazzeroni direct and ask him about reload info, you won't get anything but a butt chewing like I did. His actual answer is "DO your homework"!!!![;)]

    Your rifle sounds great but why didn't you pay the extra $5,600 and get a real Lazzeroni rifle instead of the savage[:D]
