remington rand 1911a1

is it possible that a 1911A1 could be re-worked at an arsenal without the arsenal stamped marked on right side on slide? a dealer tried to tell me that since the cross cannons acceptace stamp was faded, it was an arsenal rebuild, and I told him quite a few rands had partially stuck arsenal stamps, i got home disassembled found HS bbl, and S ( scovill mfg) magazine but top of frame was stamped G for a fill of a govt contract, which was stamped before finish, but on front frame below trigger housing stamped NA CO, with a # 51510 after it, he said it was shooter and only worth 450, then a different dealer looked at it , and only said partially re parkerized and said no less than 1450, thanks for any advise, can post pics if needed. its a early 1945., ser 2221xxx, rand frame,
slide, and rand markings, but running into problems identifying checkering, no ribbed slide lock and rear mainspring housing, everything is fine checkering.P1010015.jpg

    Hi all,

    Picked up a Remington Rand last week. The gun is in about 98% condition except that the mainspring housing is flat instead of arched with grooves like it is supposed to be. Any ideas why somebody would replace it and how do you think it would affect the guns value.

    Probably like me.....Don't like the Feel of the Grip with the Arched Grip...I have an 11A1 and an 11...Found that the 11 shot better than the 11A1 for Me...So changed out the Arch to a Flat one and could shoot the same 6" Group at 25 feet...with either Gun....Some people can shoot better with the Arch than with the Flat .....Just Fits My Hand better....! As for Value....Keeping a Gun in the Original as Issued Condition always makes it more Valuable......All You gotta do is replace the Arched Spring Housing for the Flat one, or vice versa....Cost You maybe $30.00 and 10 Minutes of your time.............

    That assumes that vp knows which MSH is correct for his gun (fine checkered for early, 8 ribs for late).

    i will affect the value to a collector ,at least it is a good reason to talk you down anyway

    check fleabay ,they have them from time to time ,make sure you get one with the loop

    i will now put ten round mags in all my pre ban guns ,just to show defiance

    Thx for the info. Mine is a late model 223xxxx; so I need ribbed housing. Still can't figure out why its got a flat housing....everything else looks original.
