colt 1911a
I found a colt 1911a mnfr.date 1918 for sale recently. The gun is about 97% w/ all correct,matching, and original parts. No rebluing or arsenal rebuild. Also has matching numbered mag. Asking price is $2200. Does this sound like it is in the ballpark? I have a Remington Rand 1911a1 and know the value of this gun but have no idea on the WWI pistols.

Hello VROYCE welcome to WW I 1911's I hope I don't sound curt but when you start collecting HIGH END 1911 " I consider $2200 HIGH END" you need to make sure EVERYTHING is right there were many subtle changes in barrel stamping, hammer spur ,safty ETC on colts even to the number of small diamonds between the large diamonds on the grips. If this is truely a 97% UNREFINISHED gun with every part correct then this would be a good buy .But beware if any parts are incorrect it might be very very hard to find the right part.CLAWSON has a great book on the 1911. I dont know how you found this pistol but" would you buy a used car from this person?" There are even some big name dealers who sell items that are questionable . However, the description of the "matching numbered mag" REALLY scares me! That's a red flag, as the mag should not have any number on it. Be very cautious.

I would think the 2000 is way up on the high end, unless the pistol can be documented as something special, IE a generals issue, or something of that nature,, Most around here depending on condition, range from 400. to 750 bucks. might be some with the extremely lower numbers going for over a thousand,,
