1894 winchester 30-30
I have a question about a gun i have been hunting with for about 5 years. it is model# 436209 which was manufactured in 1909 it has a hexagon barrel that is 26" it also has what i,ve been told is a factory mounted lyman middleton flip up sight that is fully functional except the fact that it has a little play when in the locked position i found the sight to be very accurate at close range but at long range i either dont know how to propperly adjust the sight for distance or it needs some recalibrating any info pertaining to distance and notches on the sight would be apprechiated. the gun is in excellent condition and is still a trusty companion that iwould never considder parting with. But one that has me curiouse as to what it is valued. It is a 30-30 caliber

OMG, heres another one that Bert will reply to.. He's gonna tell you that its Octagon not Hexagon.And that the correct way to measure the bbl length is to insert a cleaning rod into the bbl on a closed action and measure the distance from breech face to muzzle.But listen close, he WILL help you on the Lyman sight and current value!!Be sure and reply to any follow-up questions he has!He does know Winchesters...

The Lyman tang sight adjusts for elevation by simply turning the knurled thimble (turn it clockwise to adjust up for longer ranges). The elevation staff has horizontal lines one it that can be used to help re-adjust the sight for different distances. I typically use the barrel mounted rear sight for distances out to 75 yards, and I set up my tang sight for 125 yards. This allows for rapid sighting at any distance that I intend to shoot my Model 1894 30 W.C.F. Rifle.
As for the potential value of your old Model 1894 Rifle, that primarily depends upon how much of the original factory blueing remains on the frame. "Excellent" condition means that it has at least 80%, and if that is the case, then your Rifle is worth a fair bit more than $500 (especially with it having the Lyman tang sight). Give us an estimate of the condition of the blueing, and we can get a bit closer on the value.
