My dad gave me this good looking pistol with a 357 barrel and the leopold scope. Sure is pretty. Not a scratch on it. How would you you rate the quality of this firearm? I'd never sell it, but is it worth anything? 0 -
If by "454" you mean 454Casull; count your fingers first! Got 5? Wanna keep 'em? Don't try it.
If the barrel is marked,"45Colt/410"; that's what it's made for.

like gunnut says don't do it , 454 operates at a lot higher presure ,which may be to much for the contender frame 0 -
IS too much pressure for the contender. If you want that get the Encore. 0 -
You can fire 45 colt in the 454 but not vice versa, would be like trying to chamber a 44 mag in a 44 special ... don't fit!
The 45 colt is like the "special" of the 454 ... lower power, makes practice fun, rather than painful.
Heard of a couple folks that had their Contender barrels rechambered for 454 ... but not something I would recommend as this round really will overstress the Contender ... go to the Encore or the New G2, both will handle the heavier loads, and of those two I would still recommend the Encore as it is the heavier built frame.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
