ak question for drobs
i know people have ask this question before, can i put a forward pistol grip on a norinco mak90? and can i also change the rest of the stock like a real pistol grip, folding, etc. any advise is greatly appreciated.

Concerning the foregrip on the Mak90: You can change that out since you are trading one foreign made part for another foreign made part.
Concerning the standard stock and pistol grip swap: in this case you would need to get more US made parts in your gun. I'm still hazy as to how many you need but check out the forum over at http://www.k-var.com or give them a call, they can send you everything you need.
One other thing, since you live in MI you may want to check out what the overall length requirements are on rifles. I'm hearing rumors that folding stocks might make the rifle considered a pistol in MI, requiring you to register it as such.
Edit: Cancel that MI stuff, some reason I thought you were from Michigan. My bad.

thank you for the reply,right i don't live in mi i live in vermont,as for the forgrip cool, the rest i think you are right 5 or 7 usa made parts. the question now is it worth putting in usa parts or leave it alone?

Well if you save all the original parts, you can always put the stuff back in if you want to sell it to keep it's "collector" value.

Here is the "AK list" ... these are the parts that the BTAFE counts. You have to reduce your imported part count to 10 or less to make your AK "domestic" and have a legal pistolgrip configuration.
(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(4) Muzzle attachments
(5) Bolts
(6) Bolt carriers
(7) Gas pistons
(8) Triggers
(9) Hammers
(10) Disconnectors
(11) Buttstocks
(12) Pistol grips
(13) Forearm handguards
(14) Magazine body
(15) Followers
(16) Floorplates
The parts you change are of your own choosing ... because of the ease of replacement and cost the most commonly replaced parts are the:
Gas pistons
Triggers
Hammers
Disconnectors
Buttstocks
Pistol grips
Forearm handguards
Although the mag floor plates and followers are cheap to replace, most people elect other parts so they can use any un-modified AK mag..If you really want to do something, you'll find a way ...

my knowledge is limited to what I have owned/handled, there are alot of other members on here like Kimberkid that know alot more than I do, I think your easiest switch would be a US made adjustable trigger hammer assembly and an Ace other othe US made folding stock and US foregrips to get that rifle to have enough parts. You may also need a US made gas rod.
I'd hold off on the ACE folding stock as I have one on my Sar1 right now and while it's probably the most stable folding stock system out there, it's a real PITA to fold! Now Robinson arms has a prototype that blows my skirt up at least from their photoshop immages. Check this out:

thank you all. i own many aks, i have a wars10 which i took off all the wood and put on black plastic,and a ar stock kit. it looks evil as hell. i knew the thumbhole mak90 would be differnt to change being from china, etc. thanks again.
ps- i printed out the list, so if someone ask me, i have the right info.
