    Mike,

I used to play with a bunch of variations on this format when I shot long range pistol and silhouette. But believe me, the law of diminishing returns comes into play big time! I was limited by the sheer energy of some of the combinations as to how many shots I could fire. The pain in my wrist and forearm got to be substantial. It wasn't worth it to me so I downsized to cartridges for varmints.

    338 Win. Mag./ 15" barrel

225 Nosler Partition (will open up at lower velocity)

    3.340" OAL

    67.1 grains of V V N-150 (96% filled case)

    2465 FPS @ the muzzle

    3036 Ft/Lbs of energy @ the muzzle

100% of the powder burned in 9".

    300 yards = 1940 FPS/ 1881 Ft/Lbs/ -18.0 drop (100 yard zero)

That should start the cylinders popping!

    Best of luck!

When I was shooting long range pistol silhouette, a fellow showed up with a XP-100 in 458 Winchester. I could tell when he fired it that it was considerably down loaded. I allways wondered if he ever had the nerve to fire it with a full powered round. I guess I was a wimp as I shot a Super 14 Contender in 35 Remington.
