good place to buy 45-70 ammo...?
anybody know a cheap place to purchase 45-70 ammo..I just bought the gun and want to shoot it soon. I've bought all the dyes to reload...I just want to get a few boxes to shoot.

prices vary between the sources mentioned so where you find the best buy today may not be so next week ... so always best to check multiple sources and watch for the "shipping bite" as it can make things as costly as if you went to a local outlet for your ammo.

How could you call shipped ammo with shippping fees 'cheap'?Any dealer should be able to supply it cheaper.Have you got a bi-mart near ya?They usually have it too.
What kind of gun is it? 45-70 is my fav. plinking caliber.:)

As previously mentioned www.sportsmansguide.com sometimes has some great deals. They can be significantly cheaper than most show or store prices even with shipping. If you belong to their Buyer Club all ammo is discounted an additional 5%.
I have purchased some .17HMR ammo from them in the past for a price that I have not seen anyone equal!
I would also recommend WalMart as a source of reasonably priced ammo. If I buy locally no shop or other store comes close to their price locally. Most shops or stores will not carry 400 rounds of reloadable surplus .30-06 ammo, so then you have to resort to the mail and shipping charges, but the alternative is not to have it at all.

If you want only a few boxes to shoot, then I would advise you to try your local GUN SHOP. I don't remember you stating what the gun is, so that may be a factor as to what type of ammo. Your local dealer should be able to give you some advice. By the time you add shipping, etc. on a few boxes it usually doesn't pay to order. I feel if someone is going to make money from my addiction then they should offer a full service shop as far as what they sell. 0
