magazine problems

I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH AN OLDER 7 ROUND .22 CAL. MAGAZINE OFF A MOSSBERG AUTO IF I PUT MORE THAN 2 ROUNDS IN THAY GET JAMED IN THE MAG. AND I HAVE A HECK OF A TIME GETTING THEM OUT OF THE MAG.. BUT IF I PUT JUST ONE IN IT FEEDS JUST FINE.

    I just bought an m1a. I also bought a 20 rnd thermold magazine for it, because thermold mags feed flawlessly in my ar15.
    However, the magazine will not lock into position on my m1! It simply won't, i jam it up in there as far as i can, and it looks like its locked, but then i can simply pull it out without depressing the magazine release in front of the trigger.
    In fact, it looks like the magazine release doesnt lock the magzine in for some reason, but it works fine on my factory 10 round clip.
    Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks guys.

    Your gonna need to file a little off of the bottom of block on the magazine itself. This is the rectagular block on the back of the magazine that the mag release locks on to.

    I've helped my buddy file a bunch of those Thermolds for his M1A. We just used whatever file we could find in the house.

    Take some off then test it, take some off then test in the gun. Mags work great.

    Your use of the word "jam" suggests that you may not be locking the mag in the rifle correctly. You have to latch the front of the mag first, then rotate it rearward until the mag locking plate catches on the mag latch.

    sr... I had the same problem with the new Springfield SOCOM 16 I just bought. The GI metal mags work fine but not the Thermold. The advice previously mentioned should do the trick.

    The protrusion on the back of the mag is too long and some material should be removed from the bottom edge so it can lock up with the mag catch on the rifle.

    thanks a ton guys. I don't have a file so I ground it down with a steak knife. I just got married and my wife walked in and saw me sawing at my new gun's magazine with a steak knife; she looked at me like I was nuts, then walked out. Hehe, she thinks I'm crazy and school's getting to my head, but I'm happy!

    I think at one point we used a Ginsu knife because it was faster than the file. [:D]

    how much is a little?i have a few of these and tried one for the first time the other day.cant find my steel g.i. mags.guess i need to clean upthe garage!has anyone tried gring or cutting with a dremel tool?
