I need help w/marlin model 336W

Hello,

I recently aquired a Marlin 30/30 lever action. I have 0 experience with this type of rifle...First I worked the lever to check and make sure it was unloaded and the lever and bolt are now stuck in the open position. someone save me from my own inexperience please.

  Sounds like the loading gate screw is loose, you will have to remove the lever pivot screw, remove the lever, and slip the bolt to the rear, be careful to not lose the ejector as it can fall from it's place in the left side of the receiver when the bolt is slid out. once the bolt is out the lifter can be pushed down so as to free the action, before re-assembling the rifle, use a proper size screw driver to tighten the loading gate screw, (located Approx.1 inch to the rear of the loading port) reassemble and test for function.

  One thing that will do this is a loose loading gate. Check to see if the loading gate screw is tight. This is the small directly behind the loading port. If it ws loose, it may have come out of alignment and may have to be taken apart to re-align.
