Info Needed on Weatherby Vangaurd

I saw a Weatherby Vanguard at the local WalMart for $400.00 and it had a synthetic stock and blued barrel. I know the quality and finish are along way from the Mark V, but I don't know anything about these rifles.

Can somebody provide me with information about this rifle like pros, cons, what size groups, reliability, handling, calibers, etc?

    The vanguards made by Howa are good solid shooters. They are not Mark 5 actions.

    The Vanguard is a quality rifle made by Howa in Japan, and is the same rifle as the Howa 1500 Lightening and S&W 1500. The rifle comes with a MOA accuracy guarantee right out of the box, and is boasted to be the most accurate out-of-the-box rifle in production. It has a 3 hole gas port in the bolt, two locking lugs, and an adjustable trigger. It's a great rifle for the price, but it suffers in resale. First level wholesalers pay $240 per rifle when buying in lots, so you should never pay more than $350 total for one of these rifles.     The vanguard is a GREAT BUY for the money. They promise 1.5" group with premium ammo. They are basically the remington 700 with all the improvements the 700 did not make. Trigger is very smooth. Walmart used to be the sole distributer but they are available most places now.

    I would rate the Tikka T3 a better rifle but they cost more too.

    For the money, both are probably the best buys.
