Ruger P90 - magazine is a pain!

I just got a Ruger P90 2 days ago. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range, but it seems like its is a bit difficult to get the magazine inserted. I have to press the release inorder to get it in. But then sometimes it just goes in with only a slight hickup. ?

Anyone else have that problem?

I don't recall this happening at the store, but then I only took it out once if I recall, and like I said it has gone in somewhat easy once or twice...but 9/10 times its requires me to push the button.

I did swap out the grip for Hogue the second I got home, could that have done it?

    I have a P-90 and have not had this problem. Since you changed grips, you might check in the magazine well and make sure the end on the screw is not hiting the side of the magazine. I have had this happen on other pistols.

    I had a P-90 and the same thing happened with it. I changed the original grips with Hogue grips and it may have something to do with it. It may also wear in with time. I wouldn't be overly concerned with it. I have a Sprinfield GI .45 that have the same little hitch.

    I think I found the problem.

    I took the grip off and look at the latch that holds the clip in. It seems like there is a slight notch taken out of it, or cut into it, which ever way you want to look at it.

    Almost like someone forced the clip in wrong and it gouged it.

    Now rather than slide over and locking into place, it gets stuck.

    I think I have to replace it. Or take it back and have it sent to Ruger and take a lot of shipping time.

    How much is this part to buy new? Seeing as how it should be in the instruction manual on how to replace it for moving it to the other side of the gun, I think I could just do it for a lot less hassle in my opinion.

    How does the magazine eject? When you hit the mag release will the mag drop out freely? Or do you have to pry it out?

    I'm thinking you just got to slap it in there. Don't baby it. It can take it.

    I don't think that is it. I can slap it in there, but it will really catch every few times.

    As for ejecting, it comes right out.

    I just called Ruger and they are sending me a new pice free of charge. :D

    I am glad you contacted Ruger, they were very helpful the one time I called them in 20+ years. You should not have to put up with any problems with a new piece.
    I know you hate to send your gun away to the factory for 'repair', but you might wait just as long for a local 'smith'...I know the good ones around here are always backed up, especially this time of year.
