Here is the website. Should be able to figure it out from there. Looks to me like the 110 is wood and the 111 is synthetic.

the savage with just 2 digits is the short action, and 3 digits would be a long action. As for one being a wood model or synthetic I'm not sure. They sure shoot well though. I've got one in a custom 280 Rem.

i`ve owned the 110 tactical savage that was used to do the write up in SHOOTING MAGAZINE, there is a difference, you have a long action in the 110, and a short action, in the 110, if you are buying the weapon new, read the BOX!!!! or listen to your dealer, hopefully that is what HE GETS PAID FOR!!!! IF he cant explain the difference, HE`s a clerk, not a professional DEALER!!!! go to some one else!!! HIS LOSS!!!!

I'd like to ask for some clarification too if anyone has it?? I understand the idea that everyone should inform themselves but, at times and in places where knowledgeable and helpful gun shop owners and well stocked stores are few and far between it can be difficult--and, isn't that what forums like this are for?? I know I try and pass along and knowledge I have to pay back the wealth of information others have given me.

Anyway, the savage websight is less than informative about the differences between the 110/111/10. I thought the 110 was long action too until I came across a 110 in 223 remington.

    Can anyone help????

thank you ker222, this is my point, the 110 tactical savage i owned was 223 rem long action, i heard a dealer rep. tell a customer one day that weapon did not exist, and i`m standing there with it, and the article about the same weapon. to be a dealer and have knowledge or be a CLERK!!!! BS only goes so far, but it sure will cost a good dealer if his people are uninformed!!!!

I THINK the 111 has a detachable magazine, where the 110 has an internal magazine.

I also have a 110 long action 223. The Savage ID system has become mixed up over the years. I have see 110, 110C { detachable box mag }, 110E. The 111 may be gloss and the 110 matt { or reverse ??[?]} The 16/116 are stainless steel sporters. 12/112 are target guns. BVSS + laminated wood, stainless steel, bull bbl., box mag. BVSS-S = as before but single shot. FV = plastic stock, bull bbl, blue. With a little study at the savage site you should be able to figure out the newer stuff. The local pawn has a 110E or D that has cut checkering, ebony forend tip, nice wood, etc. First I had seen.
