winchester model 100
I picked up a Winchester Model 100 today at a garage sale. The rifle is in 90% condition. It is chambered in .284 Winchester. The S/N is 97,xxx. I think that makes production in 1965. I don't have pics just yet, but could take some and email them. Are the values really as high as I have seen on GB auctions? Incidently, I paid $250 for the rifle with 2 clips, 2 boxes of shells, and a 4x Bushnell scope on Weaver bases and rings. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated![:)][:)][?]

I posted this same question about a month ago and would like to confirm if the response I received is correct.
I have a Winchester model 100 in .284 caliber. The serial number is 855XX. What is the date of manufacture? I was previously told the manufacure date was 1963, but it has the basket weaving checkering like those made post 63/64. Mine has checkering just like the one in this auction.

I agree. My 100 was very sensitive to a dirty chamber. Also clean and lube the extractor and boltface.
101- If I remember correctly, the recall was for firingpin breakage.Win replaced the round pin with a heavier square one.

The recall is still active. If you have a model 100, you can go to Winchester's website and find out if your rifle has been fixed. If not they will tell you where you can get it done in your area.

I have a Model 100 at a local shop right now. I called Winchester and they told me to either send the gun to them to replace the firing pin or have a local gunsmith remove the pin and mail the pin to them then they would return a new pin for him to install and also mail a check for $30 to cover the replacement cost. 0 -
The must have raised the check amount, the last one I did the check was for $20.00.[:)][^]

If the brush doesn't work take it to the local gunsmith and have him polish the chamber. 0
